So you say you want to be the next hip hop star? Cingular Wireless, Sony Ericsson and Sony Urban Music are searching for the next up and coming star, offering one grand-prize winner the chance to record a mobile ringtone and win a new car.
Unsigned artists can enter the “Hip Hop SupaStar” contest by mailing in an original song on CD or tape. Sony Urban Music executives will select 10 finalists from the pool of submissions. Finalists will have a chance to perform their music during a concert tour by hip hop artist Xzibit, presented by Cingular Wireless and Sony Ericsson. Xzibit, host of MTV’s series Pimp My Ride, is hosting the contest.
Fans can decide the next Hip Hop SupaStar by voting on their favorite ringtone through text messaging on their mobile handsets. The contest runs through April 10. Entries must be submitted by Feb. 4. Finalists will be announced Feb. 15. The contest is open to participants 18 and older.
The grand-prize winner will have a chance to record two demos with SonyBMG, which includes the use of the recording studio and rental equipment. The top winner will also receive a new car valued at $20,000. Full contest rules are available online at www.hiphopsupastar.com.
