The Next Big Boom

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Look around at your top account execs, creatives, copywriters and Web designers. Think you’ll still have all that expertise in 10 years? Maybe not.

In a recent survey, nearly one out of every two senior executives (47%) said baby boomer retirements will have the greatest impact on the work force over the next decade.

“The looming retirement of baby boomers has captured the attention of business leaders who are concerned about retaining the expertise of their most tenured employees,” says Max Messmer, chairman and CEO of Robert Half International. His firm developed the poll, which included responses from some 150 executives. “Fortunately, many baby boomers are considering working past the traditional retirement age to stay active and continue earning.”

How can companies hang on to these valuable assets? Be willing to think beyond the traditional 9-to-5 routine.

“Businesses that accommodate valued staff members who are not ready for retirement but seek new work arrangements, such as flexible or part-time schedules, are best able to keep top performers,” Messmer notes.
