It isn’t news to anyone that consumers in America are more concerned about data and privacy issues than ever before.

“The issue is not going to just disappear,” says attorney Jacqueline Klosek. “The war on terror has reduced privacy rights in the United States and around the world. The bottom line is, whether the feds are leaning on your company for records or you’ve suffered a security breach by hackers, your reputation is at stake and you’ve lost your customers’ trust.”

Klosek is the author of the new book “The War on Privacy” (Praeger Publishers). In it, she looks at privacy rights before and after 9/11 not only in the United States but in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, South America, Canada, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and Asia as well.

Besides following all legally required privacy measures, Klosek advises clients to conduct an internal privacy-practice audit to understand exactly what data they’re collecting and how that data is being used, shared and protected.
