Quaker Goes Prehistoric
UNIVERSAL CITY, CA Quaker Oats will tie into the sixth installment of Universal’s successful Land Before Time series.
The video debuts Dec. 1 and the promo kicks off Jan. 3 with a full-page FSI trumpeting two coupons. Consumers can get 50 cents off Quaker Instant Oatmeal Dinosaur Eggs or $1 off the video.
Quakers dinosaur cereal, launched this summer, features “eggs” that hatch into brightly colored dinos when hot water is added. The Land Before Time video series started in 1988.
In feature film news, Universal promoted its Babe: Pig in the City theatrical release with a month-long bookmobile tour. The tour included storytelling, games, and giveaways. It made stops in 14 major cities, hitting fairs, malls and local events. Those visiting the tour got Babe books and CD-ROM games.
The bookmobile idea fits the movie because more than a dozen new Babe books were released for the sequel. Universal also opened a Babe attraction in its two theme parks and secured the pig a spot in Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.
