MTV Rolls Out Movie Contest Through UGC Sites

MTV and Mark Burnett Productions are searching for precocious film directors interested in a shot at an MTV Movie Award.

MTV’s “2008 Movie Spoof Contest” challenges viral videophiles to create parodies of scenes from films released in the past year. They can make submissions to their UGC sites of choice, including MySpace, http://www.myspace.com/mtvmovieawards; Photobucket, http://photobucket.com/contest/mtv; Motion, http://www.dailymotion.com/group/SpoofToWin; Buzznet, http://www.dailymotion.com/group/SpoofToWin; Heavy, http://my.heavy.com/mtvcontest; or and FunnyorDie, http://www.funnyordie.com/promos/mtv.

The spoofing directors who draw the most votes will fly to Los Angeles for the 2008 MTV Move Awards on June 1, with a chance to win the golden popcorn for Best Spoof Movie.

“These partnerships with key sites to create the ‘2008 MTV Spoof Contest’ allow everyday viral video visionaries to share their twisted genius with their film idols and peers around the world,” said Van Toffler, president of MTV Networks Music, Logo and Films Group.

The deadline for submissions is May 11. One finalist from each site will enter the final round at movieawards.mtv.com on May 19, with viewers voting on the entries until May 26.

Nominees for the other MTV Movie Awards are to be announced in May.
