Roger Adams, The Home Depot’s CMO, is resigning from his post after one year in the job to pursue other opportunities, the company said.
Associates learned about Adam’s departure in an internal memo on Wednesday. In it, Home Depot did not elaborate on the reason for his resignation. Adams will remain with the company through the end of the month, spokesperson Ron Defeo said.
John Ross, vice president of advertising, has been named interim head of Home Depot’s marketing department. Ross reports to Frank Blake, CEO of Home Depot. He will fulfill that role until a replacement is found, Defeo said.
Adams joined Home Depot in February 2005 as senior vice president of marketing. In October 2006, he was promoted to chief marketing officer as part of a reshuffling effort (Promo Xtra, Oct. 16, 2007).

During his time as marketing chief, Adams oversaw a number of partnerships and deals, including the launch of the chain’s National Football League partnership and its True Stories campaign, the company said.
Before joining Home Depot, Adams worked as executive director of corporate advertising at General Motors Corp, where he was responsible for corporate advertising, marketing, media and events. In 2003, he worked as general manager of GM’s Buick, Pontiac and GMC division. Prior to that, Adams was vice president of marketing, research and development at Keebler Co.
