DeviantArt, Inc. recently concluded an online art contest in collaboration with MGM Consumer Products in a campaign to fight breast cancer by raising money for the Susan G. Komen for the Cure organization. Some 1,509 entries were recorded.
DeviantArt put the call out in November to its 8 million registered members worldwide for traditional and digital works around the theme of “Pinkitude.” The contest was part of a larger Pinkitude campaign that MGM initiated last fall around its popular Pink Panther character, enlisting 22 licensees with a variety of products to support the cause.
Winners from the six-week contest were judged on technique, creativity, and best expression of the ‘Pinkitude philosophy’. Submissions from the top 40 finalists are now available as framed photo prints or canvas reproductions in the deviantArt Pinkitude Shop. All proceeds from sales of the art works will be donated to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
DeviantArt regularly runs movie poster contests for the major movie studios.
“It was a natural fit for us,” said Lana Urso, deviantArt director of advertising sales. “We were fortunate that MGM recognized an opportunity to extend exposure for young artists.”
DeviantART and MGM are also partnering to create a coffee table book to be published later this year, with proceeds also to go to Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
The top Pinkitude Contest submissions will be showcased in the book and each of the artists involved will receive an honorarium for use of their work. Additionally, winning art and products will be available for sale.
