MTV2, Time Warner Team Up for Rock Battle NYC

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

MTV2 and Time Warner are partners in a search for a New York City band to be the opening act of the Rock Band Live Tour featuring Panic At The Disco and Dashboard Confessional for a concert in Newark later this fall.

Bands had an opportunity to submit video online entries to Rock Battle NYC from Sept. 3 to Sept. 12 at nyc.mtv2.com. Rock fans are able to vote online now through Sept. 22, with the top 20 bands to be winnowed to five who will appear in a live performance battle of the bands at New York City’s Webster Hall on Sept. 29.

Some 120 bands have posted entries for the competition on the MTV2 site.

A panel of celebrity judges, including Brandon Urie and Ryan Ross from Panic At The Disco and Chris Carraba from Dashboard Confessional, will review the top 20 bands, select the five finalists and pick the top performer to appear at the Rock Bank Live performance in the Newark’s Prudential Center on Nov. 2.

MTV2 is MTV’s music video-centric digital channel on cable and satellite systems.

“MTV is thrilled to partner with time Warner Cable in innovative ways that drive value for its customers and our audiences,” said Michael Joseloff, vice president of content distribution and marketing for MTN Networks.

Live video of the band competition, “Rock Bank NYC,” will be accessible on Time Warner’s local video-on-demand channel 1111 after the concert.

Time Warner Cable customers in New York City had a presale window to purchase tickets to the event for $2 this past weekend. Tickets are now on sale to the general public for $18, with the proceeds going to a local NYC charity. Information about the events is available at www.websterhall.com.
