Online music service MP3.com Inc. and EMI Group Plc have settled a copyright infringement suit that will allow it to use the British record label’s music as part of its Web-based My.MP3.com service, according to Reuters.
In April, a U.S. District Court in New York ruled that MP3.com violated copyright law by creating a database, which when used with MP3.com-developed software, allows users to store music digitally and then access it via any computer.
Terms of the deal with EMI were not disclosed. Early last month, MP3 settled with Time Warner Inc.’s Warner Music Group and Bertelsmann AG’s music arm BMG. Those settlements provided for MP3 to pay royalties for every time a disc is downloaded.
This development comes on the heels of a federal judge’s order last week stopping most of the activities of online music swapping service Napster.
