Late Show: A Few Last Minute Programming Notes

The Young and the Fiscally Responsible Residential mortgage investor Freddie Mac has funded the production of “Nuestro Barrio,” a Spanish-language telenovela set to air on the new PBS-created V-me network starting June 1. In addition to focusing on the traditional soap opera themes of romance, jealousy and greed, the13-episode series will also serve as “edutainment,” educating viewers on financial issues like money management, credit, homeownership, predatory lending and foreclosure prevention. “Nuestro Barrio” (translated “Our Neighborhood”) was produced by the Community Reinvestment Association of North Carolina, a non-profit consumer advocacy organization.

Look, kids! A corpse! The Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago is hosting “CSI: The Experience,” an interactive forensic science exhibit based on the CBS show “CSI: Crime Scene investigation.” Visitors will learn scientific principles and investigation techniques as they try to solve a crime scene mystery using tools like DNA and fingerprint analysis, and forensic anthropology. The exhibit, developed by the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History, runs through Sept. 3, and is sponsored locally by Diet Pepsi.

Cub reporters on the air.Scholastic News and NBC News are teaming up to cover the 2008 presidential election for Scholastic Classroom Magazines and Web sites. The kid reporters’ stories will appear in Scholastic News (for students in grades 1-6), Junior Scholastic (grades 6-8) and Scholastic News Online, which have a combined reach of more than 25 million students and teachers annually. Oh, I wish I was an American Idol… Oscar Mayer is using a partnership with the reality show “American Idol” to promote its “Sing the Jingle, Be a Star” campaign. The competition, now in its second year, invites songsters to see if they can cut the mustard by creating their own rendition of the hot dog company’s well-known jingle. The contest will run from May 24 to Oct. 31. Twelve finalists will be selected by a panel of Oscar Mayer appointed judges and posted online at http://www.singthejingle.com from Jan. 15 to Feb. 15, 2008, where visitors will be able to vote for their favorites. The three grand prize winners will have a chance to appear in a national commercial for the brand, and receive a trip to the American Idol season 7 finale.
