Kryptonite Erecting Bike Racks in Four Cities

Expanding on a program to offer parking services to cycling enthusiasts, Kryptonite will install bike racks in four U.S. cities over the next several months.

Part of a marketing program designed by TracyLocke, Kryptonite is currently shipping bike racks for installation in key locations around Portland, OR. The three-foot-high U-shaped bike racks—suggesting the design of Krytonite’s signature bike locks—are also slated for installation in San Francisco, Chicago and Austin, TX, over the next several months.

“They’re being located in hip, cool areas where people wanted bike racks,” said Nigel Lowrie, TracyLocke account supervisor.

The slogan of the campaign, “Feel free to stop,” will be carried on traditional billboards, and on posters, decals and sidewalk chalk stencils. The bike stops will also be touted by local cycling organizations, and on KryptoniteLock.com.

Kryptonite has previously offered bike valet parking at Austin’s South by Southwest music and film festival and at New Belgium Brewery’s Tour de Fat bicycle fest in San Francisco.

As part of the effort, Kryptonite has become a major sponsor of the 2007 Bicycle Film Festival in several U.S. markets, offering valet parking and product giveaways to those attending.
