Gillette Contest Jump Starts NASCAR Season

Gillette is looking to ignite interest in the start of the NASCAR season with a contest where people can vote for the six drivers who they think the company has chosen as its racing team.

Each year, Gillette designates six up and coming NASCAR drivers as its ‘Young Guns,’ who will be involved in promotions with the shaving products maker through the ensuing season. But this is the first year it has gotten consumers involved in a contest. Over the next week, Gillette is challenging NASCAR fans to guess the drivers for a chance at winning a trip to a race in Las Vegas.

Contestants can make their picks online through Feb. 8 at http://www.GilletteYoungGuns.com. One grand-prize winner will get VIP tickets to the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race in Las Vegas on March 2, with airfare and two nights of hotel accommodations included.

The winner will be announced in a ceremony on Feb. 9 at Daytona International Speedway at the beginning of Speedweek festivities leading up to the Daytona 500 on Feb. 17.

“There’s a lot of interest in who’s going to be in the ‘Young Guns’ each year,” said Gillette spokesman Mike Norton. “We wanted fans to have fun at guessing who is in the ‘Young Guns’ program.”

Since Gillette created the group in 2003, those drivers have won a combined four NASCAR Cup championships and three Daytona titles.

Gillette is plugging the contest with banner ads on the NASCAR Web site.
