Williams-Sonoma Earnings Rise, Firm Bows Catalog

Williams-Sonoma Inc. reported net earnings of $79.8 million for its fourth quarter, up from $69.4 million last year.

In addition, the company will launch on April 21 PBteen, a new catalog featuring rugs, furniture, lighting, bedding and accessories all aimed at the teenage market.

Company spokeswoman Tracy Barsotti declined to elaborate on the company’s mailing and other marketing plans for the new catalog.

The cataloger and retailer reported net revenue of $859 million for the period ended Feb. 3, up 10.4% from $778.9 million last year.

Combined catalog and online sales were $255.2 million for t quarter, up 9.3% over $233.5 million last year.

ValueVision Reports Losses for Quarter, Year ValueVision Media Inc., parent company of home-shopping channel ShopNBC, reported net loss of $30.2 million for the quarter ended Jan. 31, down from net income of $226,000 last year.

The television home shopping channel reported net sales of $158 million for the fourth quarter, up from $136.1 million a year earlier.

For the year ended Jan. 31, the company reported a net loss of $39.1 million, a worsening from a net loss of $9.5 million last year.

Net sales for the year were $554.9 million, up from $462.3 million last year.

The company attributed this performance to failed investments and overall bad economic conditions.

According to news reports, the Minneapolis-based firm said its expects to see first-quarter revenues of $135 million to $140 million and 2004 revenues of $630 million to $650 million.
