Vimeo is taking a step toward becoming the Instagram of videos with its introduction of more than 500 “Hollywood-style effects” that users can add to their videos. These “Looks” are essentially filters and effects to enhance the appearance of videos on Vimeo. They come courtesy of a partnership with Vivoom.
“With instant previews, you can view dozens of Looks in seconds, all applied to your own footage, so you can quickly find your favorite,” writes Ryan Hefner, lead engineer at Vimeo. “You can also check out recommended Looks tailored to your specific video, or browse by genre, mood, location, color, time period, even holiday. This means you can finally finish that ’40s Christmas crime drama you’ve been working on since 1947.”
Looks will be free for registered Vimeo users for the next 90 days. The company is considering bringing Looks to its mobile app.
Earlier this month, Vimeo acquired Echograph, an iOS app that lets users create animated GIFs, a move that appeared to be a response to the rising popularity of Vine.
