The U.S. Postal Service launched a new, expedited Internet-based package service for small-to-medium size mailers this month called Shipping Online.
The new computerized service is designed to make it easier and faster for direct marketers to: print labels for their Express Mail or Priority Mail packages; verify address accuracy; make electronic postage payments; schedule parcel pickups; track the progress of a package through the mailstream and obtain delivery confirmation.
In order to use the service, mailers must obtain the Shipping Online software from a postal supply center, business center, or a selected post office, between now and February. The software, compatible with Windows 95, Windows 98 or Windows NT, is free.
Sometime next year, postal officials said, mailers will be able to download the program from the postal service’s Web site.
Additional information about the service and applicable rates can be obtained from the postal service’s Web site at www.USPSPriorityMail.com.
