Urban Outfitters Inc. reported net income of $4.8 million for the first quarter a 313% gain over $1.2 million for the comparable quarter last year.
Net sales for the quarter increased by 31% to $94.1 million over $71.8 million. Direct-to-consumer sales increased by 12.2% and sales at its wholesale division Free People increased by 4.2%. The quarter ended April 30.
The company attributed its results to an ability to predict and capitalize on fashion trends.
Direct-to-consumer sales for the quarter rose to $7.1 million from 6.3 million a year ago.
