Subway Lures Customers with Sports-Themed Game

Subway is using in-store advertising to drive customers to its Web site to play a basketball-themed game offering the chance to win a VIP basketball experience with San Antonio Spurs superstar basketball player Tony Parker.

While at the site, the company hopes players will also sign up for Subway mobile news or invite friends to play the game by giving them extra play credits to do so.

People to who register for the Subway Three Point Play Basketball Experience have a chance to win instant prizes, including an Xbox 360, iPod Shuffle, Subway gift cards and American Airlines travel certificates. To play, participants use their keyboard to manipulate a Parker character to make three-point baskets.

Customers can also earn more game credits by obtaining codes from 32-ounce drinks or packages of Doritos Sweet Chili Chips. Each person who registers is automatically entered into a sweepstakes for a shot at the grand prize: some court time with Tony Parker.

The grand-prize includes airfare and tickets for four to sit courtside at a San Antonio home game, the chance to meet and greet Parker and shoot hoops with the athlete and $5,000 spending money.

The promotion runs through April 19. Online marketing and in-store P-O-P support the campaign.
