The next event on the entertainment marketing calendar is the Promotion Marketing Association’s Star Power conference, which will take place May 23-24 in Los Angeles on the 20th Century Fox studio lot. The annual conference and schmooze-a-rama has in the past proven fertile ground for the exploration of ideas and the development of tie-in agreements.
The first-day schedule for Star Power 2000 includes a step-by-step recreation of a tie-in deal presented by Dean Haglund of The X-Files, a glimpse into the future of entertainment marketing by the staff of Wired magazine, voting for the best entertainment tie-ins of all time presented by VH-1, and a session on the changing demographics of today’s consumer.
The second day’s agenda features six rounds of case studies that document how successful promotions were created and implemented. Other sessions include a “How to Sell Me” panel boasting marketers from Visa USA, Kellogg Co., and Burger King, a look at how cultural variances affect promotions, and a discussion of the Internet’s effect on the entertainment industry.
promo Magazine will get involved in the activities by presenting its second-annual Entertainment Marketing Awards during lunch on the second day. PMA will use the venue to present its first Star Power Awards.
