Square is known for being a payments company enabling users to sell and pay for items via mobile devices. Now the company will be known for something else: gift cards. Just in time for the holidays, Square is introducing gift cards that are accessible on users’ mobile phones. These gift cards can be sent to others via users’ phones, and can be presented and redeemed in Apple’s Passbook app. This marks the first time Square is integrating with Passbook. Square users need to update their Square Wallet app to get started with these gift cards. Recipients of Square gift cards can redeem it by using Square, sending the card to Passbook or showing a QR code at the store. The recipient can also print out the QR code from the email they receive. (AllThingsD, Square)
