Federal Trade Commissioner Mozelle W. Thompson was elected chair of the OECD’s Committee on Consumer Policy at the commencement Wednesday of the Committee’s spring meeting in Paris. The Committee on Consumer Policy is comprised of officials representing 30 countries and is the only international government forum whose mission is to consider consumer issues.

Reuters reports that the head of two Italian television shopping channels, an auction house and a soccer club was arrested on Wednesday for fraud, including selling forged paintings. Giorgio Corbelli, who is president of second division Napoli soccer club, is accused of selling forgeries via his Telemarket and Telemarket2 home-shopping channels. Roberto Rossi, a deputy prosecutor in the southern town of Bari who is in charge of the investigation, said eight other people had been arrested in connection with the case.
