Search Engine Success Lies with Keywords

Posted on

Webmasters mustn’t be daunted by overarching powers the search engine sometimes seem to have over websites on the Internet. Search engines need to be considered, after all, simple and efficient machines – ascribing them powers of complexity and then subsequently changing your web plans in a hopeless ploy to beat them is a fool’s game. Search engines are simply filters that aim to arrange websites on the Internet in the most orderly and efficient manner possible for end user viewing. It’s up to web designers to build and amend their sites in a presentable manner for search engines so that the appropriate web searchers will locate them. As webmaster it behooves you to keep this in mind. Do not fight sound, orderly logic. We at ConductSearch.com maintain that your relationship with the search engine need not be an adversarial one.

The content of your website is crucial in nabbing search engine attention. Not only is good content a plus, but poor content will likely ensure dissatisfaction with the search process for your website. Too many or too little keyword concentration could prove disastrous to your efforts. It’s almost as important to keep a balanced keyword density as it is to keep your content readable and effective.

You are in competition with countless related and unrelated websites that have their own agendas.  As the amount of information to be indexed by search engines proliferates, competition sharpens for better placement and proper keyword usage becomes a mandatory task and not an optional art.

Envision your website, your message, your blog, or what have you – and then come up with a thorough list of related keywords that apply to your theme. Better to have a big list than a small one, you can be judicious with your usage on your web copy later. When you write your web copy use these words, populate your content with them at every step while keeping your content readable. This isn’t to fool anyone or game the system, but rather to tighten the nuts and bolts creation of quality content. It’s not a graceful process, but until the rules of the game change, this is how we do it in the Internet Age.

Use keyword checking programs to maintain keyword frequency and density within your web copy. Don’t venture into flowery, overly descriptive language. Keep in mind that this is Internet writing, not English 101. Your content must deliver your message and do so in language loaded with keywords.

You should also remember that at all times quality trumps quantity with keywords. Hammering home lots of keywords only covers your website with a thin blanket that will be punctured by competition. After all, the competition layers their own websites thickly with repeated and smart use of the right keywords. You can’t use keywords sparingly. So go back to your original list, the one made before writing the web copy, and pick out the best words and weave them into the content. For instance, better to use “buck knife” ten times, than to spread “buck knife”, “hunting knife”, “jack knife”, and “bowie knife” through your content. To be sure, varied phraseology casts your net wider for the search engines, but weaker, too. And weak presence counts for nothing but style points that no one will see.

To see the power of the keyword you only need to look at what search terms attract the scourge of malware. Recently, a research team from a British company called Site Advisor ran popular search terms through the big search engines and came up with some interesting results.

Here are the 8 most dangerous search terms:

1. Free screensavers
2. Bearshare
3. Screensavers
4. Winmx
5. Limewire
6. Download Yahoo Messenger
7. Lime wire
8. Free ringtones

It’s not mentioned often, but a stunning aspect of the Internet these days is how important the written word has become to its usage. In years past being clever with the English language was not a required skill. But the evolution of the keyword-driven search has changed that. Now, what you write into your websites or search engines could bring you untold fortunes, ignominy, or even a fouled-up hard drive. So, whether you’re creating content or surfing the web, be mindful of the power of the keywords, for they are the keys of the kingdom.
