Scion Runs ‘Craft My Ride’ Contest

Scion is sponsoring a contest for amateur artists to customize hand-made accessories for one of its vehicles for a chance to win a 2008 Scion xD five-door subcompact.

In the “Craft My Ride’ contest, which began Monday, people submit designs for key chains, seat covers, floor mats, steering wheel covers, tissue holders and other accessories at CraftMyRide.com through Oct. 22. Representatives from craft stores nationwide will judge the submissions. Finalists will be selected on Nov. 2.

Judges will consider creativity, utility and marketability. The first-place winner gets the Scion, with the second- and third-place winners receive $1,000 and $500, respectively. Winners will be posted on the Craft My Ride site in early December.

“We want to support raw talent in any form, and to build a lasting relationship with these burgeoning artistic groups,” said Alan Mimaki, Scion business operations manager, in a statement.

Retail partners, which are promoting the contest, include The WorkShop in Austin, TX; Stuff in Kansas City; Fancy Tiger in Denver; The Paper Doll in Bellingham, WA; Handmade Galleries in Los Angeles, Green Jeans in New York City, Mew Gallery in Philadelphia, PA, and Youngblood Gallery and Boutique in Atlanta.

Marketing firm Inform Ventures helped Scion to craft the promotion.
