School Specialty Inc. reported net income of $27.1 million for its first quarter, up 13% from $24 million last year.
The educational supplies direct marketer reported revenue of $304.4 million for the quarter ended July 26, up 2.1% from $298 million last year.
“The current economic and funding environment in certain states has resulted in some margin pressure, primarily on bid business and the traditional business’s furniture lines,” said Dave Vander Zanden, CEO of the Greenville, WI firm in a statement.
