When people across America receive Procter & Gamble’s “Give Education brandSAVER” in their newspapers on Sunday, July 31, they will find a note from Grammy Award-winning recording artist John Legend. The note will explain the “Give Education” campaign and encourage people to redeem the enclosed coupons to help out.
“Give Education” was developed in partnership with Communities in Schools to increase awareness of the student dropout crisis in the U.S. and to raise funds to help keep millions of students in school. Every nine seconds of each school day, a young person drops out of high school in the U.S. and nearly one-third of high school students fail to graduate on time, P&G said.
The rallying cry behind the program, which began today, is for people to “School the Nation” by redeeming the coupons for P&G products, including Puffs, Bounty, Crest, Pantene, Duracell, Olay and Tide. Each redemption triggers a P&G donation of two cents to CIS, with no cap on the total donation.
The donations will be used for tutoring, mentoring, individual or family counseling, health services, food bank access, college visits and other services, P&G said.
Legend, with a long track record of philanthropic work, will also be featured in a national TV spot that also begins airing today and on the brand’s Facebook page.
