One In Five Vacationers Must Redeem Points For Vacation: Survey

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

What’s making vacations possible during summer 2009 rough economic times? Loyalty and reward program points. According to a new survey, 20% of Americans surveyed say if it weren’t for redeeming points, they couldn’t take vacation trips.

The survey, which was commissioned by Wyndham Rewards, The survey found that nearly one-third of Americans (31%) belong to one or more travel industry loyalty or rewards program, and almost half of them (47%) plan to redeem travel rewards points for their next vacation.

Additionally, nearly two-thirds of Americans say rewards points are either “very important” or “extremely important” given the state of the economy. Twenty-nine percent responded “very important” and just over one third responded “extremely important”.

“Knowing that travelers are still taking vacations, but watching their overall spend more carefully, we wanted to find out exactly how important rewards points are to Americans,” said Jill Noblett, Wyndham Hotel Group senior vice president of Loyalty and Direct Marketing, in a statement. “This survey tells us reward points are rather significant.”

Rabin Research conducted the survey of 1,040 Americans on June 16, 2009.
