McDonald’s Running Low on Monopoly Game Pieces

McDonald’s Corp. may end Best Chance Monopoly early, since some restaurants seem likely to run out of game pieces before the Nov. 10 end date.

According to news reports, Big Mac printed only 275 million game pieces for the four-week joint promo with Best Buy (Oct. 14 Xtra). McDonald’s distributed 400 million game pieces for its March-April 2003 Winning Time sweepstakes (May 2003 PROMO).

McDonald’s is re-supplying restaurants running low on cups and fry and hash brown boxes with game pieces attached, per Dow Jones Newswire. Oak Brook, IL-based McDonald’s can’t print more game pieces because it has already published odds of winning, which would change if more pieces were introduced. Big Mac also is verifying some potential big winners, per Dow Jones.

Added distribution in 570 Best Buy stores may have boosted demand for game pieces. Best Chance Monopoly prizes include cash ($50 to $1 million), SUVs and Best Buy electronics. Players get a “Chance” game piece on large and super-size fry boxes to win “Best Buy Bucks” and gift cards. Each is a guaranteed winner worth $1, $5 or $10, or a gift card worth $50 or $5,000, redeemable in-store or at BestBuy.com. The Marketing Store Worldwide, Oak Brook, IL, handles.
