MasterCard, MLB Team Up for Sweepstakes

MasterCard Worldwide and Major League Baseball Properties have kicked off a sweepstakes offering the chance to win a week with a favorite professional baseball team.

U.S. cardholders who use their MasterCard through Sept. 30 will be entered for a chance to win the Week of Your Dreams promotions. Customers will earn double entries for MasterCard PayPass transactions and with credit card purchases made with a Bank of America MLB team affinity card.

Consumers can also enter the MasterCard Presents MLB Dreams sweepstakes online at Priceless.com.

Three grand-prize winners will receive a six-day baseball experience for four to the team of their choice. The prize package includes three options ranging from special access to home and away games, MLB spring training, or MLB All-Star games.

The winners and guests will receive tickets to each event, MLB memorabilia, $25,000 spending money and a meet and greet with baseball players.

“These two brands have built a tremendous fan opportunity,” said John Brody, Senior vice president, corporate sales and marketing, Major League Baseball, in a statement. “Offering our fans the ability to fulfill their Major League Baseball dreams is a unique way to reward their love for our great game.”

MasterCard has sponsorship alliances with 17 MLB teams.

A separate sweepstakes launches July 9. MasterCard and MLB.com will launch a MLB Dreams-themed Web site featuring Fox Sports broadcaster Joe Buck. Visitors can create a team-specific video and record their voice over the phone describing their favorite team for a chance to win a trip for four to the 2007 MLB World Series game.

Visitors that view and vote and their favorite videos can win $50 MLB.com shop gift codes. The sweeps ends Sept. 30.

To hype up the campaign, MasterCard will launch events for a limited amount of people called Dream Days in about 10 markets. Consumers can sign up starting Aug. 1 to participate at Priceless.com or MLB.com. The events run Aug. 5-19. Visitors will get exclusive access to stadiums for a VIP experience, including non-game day clinics, player appearances and behind-the-scenes access.

TV spots, 30 million statement inserts to cardholders, signage, print ads and online banners support the promotion. MasterCard will also launch out-of-home campaign in New York, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia and Atlanta, which includes team-themed wrapped buses.

MasterCard implemented the sweepstakes with Major League Baseball Properties and Major League Baseball Advanced Media.

McCann Erickson, handles advertising, MRM Worldwide is in charge of the interactive components, while Octagon manages the sponsorship activation. In addition, Ryan Partnership handles the MasterCard promotions, P/S/T oversees fulfillment and Taylor is in charge of PR.
