The Kroger Co. has teamed up with Nestlé Purina to run a contest and TV special that focuses on ways people and pets improve each other’s quality of life.

People can enter the “Four Plus Two: Tales for the Pet Lover’s Heart Photo-Essay Contest” by visiting www.purina.com and clicking on the “coupons and offers” tab through Oct. 5. Visitors submit a photo and an essay of 250 words or less that describes how they and their pet make life easier for one another.

One grand-prize winner will receive a year’s supply of Purina Cat Chow or Purina Dog Chow and a portrait with their pet by artist C.F. Payne. Two first-prize winners will receive a year’s supply of Purina pet food. The top winner will be determined based on the overall emotional appeal, originality and creativity of the photo and essay and quality of the photo.

Purina will announce the winners with the premiere of its documentary, “Four Plus Two: Tales for the Pet Lover’s Heart,” which is slated to air Oct. 25 on WGN America. The show features seven vignettes that highlight the relationships between humans and their pets.

As part of the campaign Kroger and Nestlé Purina will contribute $100,000 to local animal welfare organizations in communities served by the Kroger family of stores.

Kroger is supporting the contest and TV program with in-store promotion. Marden-Kane administers the contest.
