Kellogg Contest Searches for Hydrox Cookie Fans

Think you’re the biggest Hydrox cookie fan? Then, the Kellogg Co. wants to hear from you.

The packaged goods firm yesterday launched a contest to search out its biggest Hydrox cookie fans, in part, to support its limited-time reintroduction of crème-filled, chocolate sandwich treat. People can upload stories and photos describing why they are the brand’s biggest fans to http://www.hydroxcookie.com through July 14.

Three grand-prize winners will each receive a six-month supply of Hydrox cookies and a trip for two to New York City. The winners will be guests at a 100th anniversary celebration and will be among the first to taste the newly released cookies, which roll out in August. In addition, they will also attend a closing bell ringing ceremony at the New York Stock Exchange.

Hydrox cookies got its start at the Sunshine Biscuit Co. in 1908. In 1996, Keebler bought the company and replaced the cookie with a reformulated version in 1999 called Droxies.
Kellogg later acquired Keebler in 2001, and the firm stopped making the cookies in 2003. That paved the way for Kraft’s Oreo cookies overtake the market.

But a consumer campaign, consisting of 1,300 telephone calls, 1,000 petition signatures and online message board postings prompted the company to bring Hydrox cookies back this summer for a limited period—in time for the 100th anniversary.

The product will follow its original recipe and sell for $3.19 per 14-ounce package in late August.

Online marketing supports the campaign. Kellogg Co. handles the promotion in-house. Hunter Public Relations is in charge of PR.
