Here’s the Beef

TIRED OF all those stale ham sandwiches and fruit combos offered on airline flights? Hoping for something edible while you wing your way across America? Well, how about a steak…an Omaha Steak?

In June, the cataloger and retailer partnered with Delta Air Lines and A.1. steak sauce to bring beef to coach customers on long-haul domestic and international flights.

Tucked onto the serving tray, passengers find a small “menu” featuring the day’s meal selections (such as filet of sirloin with garlic marinade), a recipe and an Omaha Steaks direct response ad that offers six free burgers with the purchase of four filets mignons. The company’s 888 number and Web site address (www.omahasteaks.com) are also noted.

Delta estimates it will serve about 6 million Omaha Steaks in the next year.

“The partnership fits well with our long-term branding strategy,” says Stephen Simon, vice president and general manager of Omaha Steaks’ food service. “It allows us to link our strong brand identity with two powerhouse brands.”
