Gillette Runs Contest to Find Sports Phenom

Playing off its relationship with golfer Tiger Woods, Gillette is running a contest to find exceptional athletes in any ball sport.

The Gillette Fusion “Search for the Next Phenom” contest involves live events nationwide where amateur athletes can demonstrate their particular skill. People can also upload 90-second videos to YouTube to be eligible to win at http://www.youtube.com/gillettephenom.

The grand prize winner will receive a $30,000 cash prize. Finalists in the competition will be selected by a panel of experts, which will also award secondary prize packages for “most unique skill,” “most entertaining video,” and “best technical skills” on July 2. Videos can be submitted through the end of June.

Remaining dates on the “Search” tour are Los Angeles, May 3; Chicago, May 10; Cincinnati, May 12; New York, May 14 and Boston May 17.

“The contest celebrates the launch of Gillette Fusion Phenom, and provides consumers with the opportunity to show the world how phenomenal they can be,” Gillette spokesman Mike Norton said. “We’re searching the country for guys who can perform amazing ball sport feats—whether they can kick, juggle or balance—Gillette wants to see it.”

Tiger Woods is the star face of the contest, which reinforces Gillette’s connection with Woods, tennis star Roger Federer and soccer standout Thierry Henry, who have been featured together in Gillette TV spots.
