The European Council, responding to a request from U.S. President George W. Bush, is set to act on a directive that would set the stage for its member governments to collect and save massive amounts of personal information about users of electronic communications for up to two years.
Adoption of the directive by the EC at its meeting in Brussels early next month would significantly alter the electronic privacy of Europeans as stated in the EC
