A proposal to allow Colorado residents to opt out of direct mail is going to be withdrawn, according to wire service reports.
Facing opposition from businesses, unions and postal workers, state Rep. Sara Gagliardi said she planned to ask that her bill be killed and that all parties work together after the session ends to try to reach a compromise.
The bill would have allowed people to sign up by phone or on the Web to stop unsolicited mail much in the manner of the national Do Not Call list.
According to the Direct Marketing Association, do-not-mail bills have been introduced in nine other states and the DMA has urged its members to contact their legislators to voice their opposition to them.
