Neiman Marcus Direct sales rose by 3.2% during the five-week December period tracked by the company.
Not bad, in today’s economy, but comparable retail sales within its specialty retail stores segment, which includes its flagship stores as well as Bergdorf Goodman, were up 4.9%, with revenue growth trends strongest in the company’s stores in the Southeast and New York City.
The merchandise categories in the Direct Marketing segment that performed the strongest included women’s fine apparel, shoes, jewelry and handbags. In the specialty stores the strongest categories were women’s fine apparel, designer handbags, shoes, men’s clothing and precious jewelry.
For the five-week period, total revenue (including new stores and direct channels) was up 6%, to $556 million, from $525 million a year ago. Comparable revenue rose 4.5%, from $524 million to $548 million.
