Defunct Voter.com to Sell E-mail File
Voter.com, the recently failed political Web site, plans to sell its e-mail file of 170,000 that includes some lifestyle and demographic data and party affiliations, according to TheStandard.com.
To head off a privacy outcry, Voter.com is requiring bidders to agree that they will use the list only to “provide personalized political news and information to the subscribers.” The sites privacy policy had stated that subscriber data, if sold, could only be used for that purpose, the report said.
Junkbusters president Jason Catlett was quoted in the article as saying Voter.com was looking for multiple buyers and that “It’s not what the average person would expect to happen.”
The subscribers, signed up for one or more of the site’s newsletters. On Feb. 5, Voter.com announced that it was closing, according to the report.
