Citi Rolls out Gift Card Design Contest

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Citi has launched a gift card design contest.

Designs and photographs are being accepted through April 11. Thank You loyalty embers who enter must log. When they click on the entry button, an e-mail template pops up and users can upload their designs.

Entries will be judged on overall creativity, aesthetic appeal and compatibility with branding. Citi employees will select three finalists, and consumers can vote on their favorite design between May 1 and May 30.

The top winner will receive 100,000 points and have his or her winning design produced on a ThankYou Network gift card in time for the holiday season, Citi spokesperson Jeannette Volpi said. It’s the first time Citi has added a consumer-generated design element to its gift cards, Volpi said.

The second-place prize winner will receive 50,000 ThankYou Points and the third-place winner will receive 25,000 ThankYou Points. Winners will be revealed after June 18.

The ThankYou Network includes some 13 million members. The program lets people earn points by making purchases with their account cards and by booking qualified travel on Expedia.com. They can also earn more points by shopping through the ThankYou Network Bonus Center, which includes more than 300 brand-name online and in-store retailers.

Citi is promoting the contest on its ThankYou Network Web site, via e-mails to its Thank You Network members and through statement messaging and accounts online. The firm is handling the promotion in-house. Critical Mass developed the marketing material for the Web site.
