Will AT&T Wireless Stunt Mobile Growth?

Posted on by Tim Parry

Just when you think mobile is beginning to take off, AT&T Wireless announces it’s new pricing options, which means new iPhone and iPad customers will no longer have unlimited Internet access on those devices. Actually, I take that back – that plan is for ANY wireless customer who starts or changes service beginning Monday.

So much for mobile growth. Let’s home the Mobile Marketing Association comes out against this.

How soon will the other Wireless providers follow AT&T’s lead? And if they do, will it backfire like it did for the airline industry when everyone decided to charge customers for checking a bag? (Southwest made out though by going against the grain).

I may be wrong, but I thought part of the reason the Wireless companies went to unlimited plans was to promote mobile usage. It seems to me that charging for “over usage” is like going back in time.
