Watch Your Back, Apple, Google’s Android is Building Momentum
A marketer recently told me that Google will find a way to beat everyone in its path. On the heels of its Google+ and +1 launches, it appears Google is ready to launch an Android attack against Apple.
Google announced a plan today to acquire Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion. According to the subhead of the press release, the “Combination will Supercharge Android, Enhance Competition, and Offer Wonderful User Experiences.”
From the release:
The acquisition of Motorola Mobility, a dedicated Android partner, will enable Google to supercharge the Android ecosystem and will enhance competition in mobile computing. Motorola Mobility will remain a licensee of Android and Android will remain open. Google will run Motorola Mobility as a separate business.
Yes, most people you see on the street have iPhones and iPads, and it’s almost an oh-wow moment when you run into another Android user. But as you can see here, ABI research says the Andoid market is growing. That report came out before Google made its big move, of course.
What do you think? Should Apple be shaking in its boots? Or will it remain the king of mobility?
