The Sky is Falling! Oh Wait, It’s Just Labor Day
Did you survive? Do you have enough rations? Water? Clothing? Emergency supplies? The end of days are upon us!
At least, that’s what it felt like in my inbox. Maybe I’m not a good mom, but my kids going back to school no longer sends me into a consumer frenzy. Sure, I bought them a couple of new pairs of pants and a few t-shirts, but other than that not much, other than the classroom essentials on the list from their teacher. Their sneakers still fit, and neither one wanted a new backpack, despite the rips and tears in their old ones.
See, I’ve discovered a secret: Retail stores remain open after the first Monday in September. If I realize they desperately need something, I can pick it up later. You’d never guess that by the subject lines on the messages I got this weekend.
“Last Day!” “Last Chance!” messages abounded. Now, I know this is nothing new or particularly unusual. It just struck me as amusing that some mom would be leisurely checking her email the middle of Labor Day and suddenly whir into a last minute buying binge because she had forgotten the little nippers were off to matriculate the next day.
So, who did a good job with their holiday weekend emails? I loved Lands’s End’s “Labor Day Sail” subject line
