Terry Lundgren on The View

Posted on by Tim Parry

Yes, it’s Black Friday, and I’m watching The View… I’ve got a good reason though: Television was on, and I hear “Today, on The View, Macy’s president, chairman and CEO Terry Lundgren!” And of course I had to hear what he had to saw and/or plug on Black Friday.

Lundgren pretty much said things the Big Fat Marketing Blog audience already knows: Like yes, there really are deals and values on Black Friday. But he added some interesting twists as well.

Like: there’s a big difference between a great value and a great bargain. You can get a cashmere sweater for $39.95, but is it a good quality sweater or a cheap item?

Lundgren also seems to be in-touch with today’s consumer, and told the audience they should comparison shop on the Web before going to a store to buy. Sounds like Lundgren is one of those people who likes to touch and feel something before he buys it: He referred back to the cashmere sweater, and said it could look nice online but you could touch it in the store and it could cut you.

And of course, everyone in the audience got a $100 Macy’s gift card. With an estimated 150 people in The View’s studio, you can almost guarantee Macy’s will get that $15,000 back, and then some.

(PS: National Retail Federation, Lundgren also did mention he’s chairman of your organization!)
