New York Giants Fumble Through Channel Offers

Posted on by Tim Parry

nyg-facebook.gifI felt pretty special on Wednesday. I’m a fan of the (New York) Giants Pro Shop on
Facebook. Yesterday they posted an offer for its fans – $25 off a purchase of $75 or more.

nyg-email.gifThen I got an e-mail today from the Pro Shop with not only the same offer, but the same coupon code… And here I was thinking that I’m special!

There’s nothing wrong with offering the same offer to two sets of people, but be a little more creative with the reasoning… and the coupon code. The e-mailed offer makes some sense with tax day around the corner – they’re giving you a break on Tax Day (or a reason to spend your return on an Eli Manning jersey) and using the TAX10 code.

But the Facebook offer is random, a nice way to surprise your followers. Did they run out of coupon code ideas?

The there’s the issue of tracking and matchbacks. Sure, the Pro Shop could go back and see where the sales came from – e-mail or Facebook – but tracking those sales via distinct coupon code would save them some time.
