In a Recession, Sexy Restaurants Sell

Posted on by Tim Parry

Who knew anyone was still making money in this recession? Hooters did $1 billion in sales and was up 2% according to this video from last night’s
Nightline. And apparently sexy sells: copy-cat restaurants like Twin Peaks and Bone Daddy’s have popped up (no pun intended) in Texas. I may have to conveniently be the judge of that when I’m in Dallas later this month!

Anyway, the Hooters girls (and Bone Daddy’s girls and Twin Peaks girls) say people are going there for the cheap eats and to have a good time. Chief Marketer regular Drew Neisser of Renegade (who Nightline interviews in the segment) considered to crowd to be “man boys,” but adds that sex is recession proof.

And of course I can’t embed the video (Hello, ABC, it’s 2009!). So click here and choose “Nightline: 03/06/09.”
