Conan’s Sweet Tweets Hit the Big Time

n248312408772_6236.jpgI had entirely too much fun yesterday morning talking to the good folks at
Lamar Advertising, who were hip enough to hop on the Team Coco bandwagon by publishing
Conan O’Brien’s tweets on 224 of its digital billboards across the country.

You can find the story about the campaign, and the response, here. It turned out to be a brilliant little piece of branding for not only Conan but Lamar too. But was it a completely calculated effort?

“I would love to tell you that this was well planned and the opportunity was right and blah blah,” said Tommy Teepell, CMO of Baton Rouge, LA-based Lamar. “Nah. This was a total result of mindless activity and goofing off. We’ve been known to do some goofy things and have fun. That week we couldn’t participate in a panty raid, so we did this.”

“One week out of the year we’re allowed to do marketing,” added Nicholas Guercio, marketing coordinator/copywriter, with a laugh.
