BARGAIN DOCTORS: A New Kind of Health Club

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

HealthSaver Club, Coral Gables, FL, in October launched a healthcare discount card with a $5 million marketing campaign.

Consumers pay an annual fee ($89 per individual, $109 per family) for a HealthSaver Club card that they present to doctors, pharmacists, and other healthcare providers for discounts of 10 percent to 60 percent. The network has 75,000 healthcare providers (40,000 pharmacies, 19,000 dentists, 12,000 eye professionals, 18,000 chiropractors, and 20,000 alternative medicine providers), and expects to have 300,000 by yearend.

HealthSaver Club positions itself as a liaison between club members and “an ever-growing number of providers willing to offer discounts.” The service began as a dental discount network and expanded to include lifestyle-oriented services such as smoke cessation, weight loss, acupuncture, and massage therapy. Advertising broke Oct. 20 in Florida with a 30-minute infomercial and direct mail to 700,000 households. Members register via mail or at the Web site, healthsaverclub.com.
