AirTran Airways Drives Loyalty with ‘Pit Crew’ Service, Contest

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

AirTran Airways has found a unique way to reward travelers for their loyalty.

Last week gave passengers received special privileges for flying the airline in the form of speedier service from Danica Patrick look-alikes. In a one-day event, Pit Crew teams dressed as the Indy racecar driver worked ticket counters at LaGuardia Airport in New York and assisted travelers with luggage to push people through the check-in lines faster.

The airline, which sponsors the real Danica Patrick via its association with Andretti Green Racing, used the Pit Crew teams to kick off an IndyCar Series sweepstakes. Under the promotion, members of AirTran Airways’ frequent flyer program, A+ Rewards can enter for a chance to watch a live race from Patrick’s pit inside Pit Lane.

People register at http://www.airtran.com/danica through Aug. 20. AirTran Airways will start selecting winners (13 in all) starting March 3. In addition to the pit passes, winners will receive airfare, lodging and a $100 Hertz Car Rental gift certificate.

AirTran Airways is handling the sweepstakes internally. Online marketing, radio, digital and print ads will support the promotion.
