ADVO Brings in Matthew Spahn as CMO

ADVO, Inc. has named Matthew Spahn as senior VP and chief marketing officer. The position takes effect May 1.

Spahn will lead the development of strategies to support the firms marketing approach and strengthen product development, research, targeting and communications.

He replaces Brian Sanders, who resigned in 2004.

He brings 20 years of experience to the job, including 14 years with Sears, Roebuck & Co. Most recently, he was responsible for the development of media plans across all Sears businesses, brand, formats and events, managing a $650 million media budget.

He will report to CEO Scott Harding, a former colleague when the two worked for Newspaper Services of America.

ADVO is the largest home-delivered print advertising company in the U.S., with annual revenues of more than $1.2 billion. It’s mailers reach 112 million mailboxes, or 90% of the nation’s households, with its ShopWise shared mail advertising. Its clients include more than 20,000 retailers, the company said.
