Hairy, sweaty, paunchy middle-aged guys have a shot at sudden—and brief—stardom in a cameo as a character in Adult Swim’s absurd cult adult comedy hit “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” sponsored by Burger King.
No experience required. They can simply download video of up to 30 seconds in length on the Adult Swim site and do their best Carl—a character in the series in a “Give Us Your Best Carl” contest. The casting call runs from Nov. 3 through Nov. 16.
This is the latest of several Adult Swim promotions with Burger King. “We’ve paired up to do something that’s really different, to take a fictional animated character to life by enabling a fan of the show to become the character,” said John O’Hara, executive vice president for Adult Swim and Cartoon Network ad sales and marketing.
The personification of Carl will likely deliver a humorous line or two about Burger King, according to O’Hara, who expects a big response from fans of the show, whose primary characters are animated human-sized food products.
O’Hara calls “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” one of Adult Swim’s most successful adult comedies, hitting the animation network’s demographic “sweet spot” of men 18- to 24-years-old.
The casting call will get on-air plugs in spots from Burger King, which is sponsoring the one-time mixed action/animation episode of “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” early in 2009. The guy who gets to be Carl will find out in late November or early December.
The series was in the top 10 cable shows among adults 18-24 in September and won its time period, 11:45 p.m.-12 a.m. on Sunday nights, for that viewer segment among cable and broadcast networks.
