Yahoo is defending its right to record and monitor emails on its servers. The company is asking a federal judge to dismiss a lawsuit alleging that Yahoo is violating a California law by scanning emails so it can deliver ads to users. Yahoo is arguing that the federal Electronic Communications Privacy Act trumps California’s Invasion of Privacy Act, which prohibits companies from intercepting communications without the consent of all parties.
