Yahoo and Google, the Internet search engines, will stop taking advertisements in the U.S. from gambling casinos and related companies, according to wire service reports.

The move comes apparently as to forestall possible showdowns with law-enforcement officials.

Both search providers apparently reached their decisions independently.
