XM Satellite Radio Hires CMO

XM Satellite Radio has named Vernon Irvin as chief marketing officer, effective Nov. 14.

Irvin will oversee marketing efforts with responsibility for a number of operating groups, including media and brand marketing; retail, direct and partnership marketing; and, marketing operations, which includes service offerings, pricing, retention and market research. He will report to Nate Davis, president and COO.

XM has more than 7 million subscribers and more than 170 digital radio channels of commercial-free music and premier sports, news, talk and entertainment.

Most recently, Irvin worked for VeriSign as executive VP and general manager for the communications services group, with revenues of $975.7 million and more than 2,000 employees in 19 countries. While there, he oversaw a number of areas, including sales, marketing, product management, strategic development and network operations.
